Residential roofing
Confirm the roof-work classification, submission, inspection stages and applicable building fee for the actual property. The posted FY2027 development-fee document does not establish a dedicated roof-covering fee.

Roof work in Choctaw needs its jurisdiction and scope resolved before requirements are fixed. The city’s Building Division is the starting point for its permit review; a Choctaw mailing address alone does not establish city jurisdiction.

Choctaw’s Building Division describes permits and inspections for repairs and alterations, with issue following document review and fee payment. That broad description does not settle every small repair exemption or the permit stages for a particular reroof.
The roofing scope should identify whether the work is covering-only, involves damaged deck or structure, changes equipment or affects a commercial assembly. That classification gives the Building Official the right question to resolve.

Chapter 8 includes the city’s building provisions and local review framework.
Oklahoma Uniform Building Code Commission adoption information supplies the state baseline.
Choctaw’s signed 2025 roof amendments and its dynamically worded state-code adoption need to be read together. The local amendment section still bears a 2018 IRC heading, so the Building Official must reconcile current application before the work relies on an exception.
The adopted 2025 provisions identify the following practical detail questions. They are useful scope items, rather than a promise that every older detail remains unchanged under the current state baseline.
| Roof detail | Question to resolve in the current scope |
|---|---|
| Valleys and pitch changes | Confirm the required ice-barrier detail; the 2025 ordinance describes a 36-inch provision. |
| Deck and fastening | Confirm a sound, suitable fastener-holding deck and correction of listed deficiencies. |
| Edges | Resolve the applicable drip-edge detail rather than relying on the ordinance’s conditional shingle-mold exception. |
| Existing asphalt layers | The 2025 ordinance prohibits an additional asphalt-shingle application over an existing asphalt layer. Confirm the current tear-off requirement. |

Commercial work needs its own classification, particularly where the project changes more than the covering.

The city publishes separate commercial and occupancy review material, and Chapter 8 has an exterior-improvement review process. A covering-only reroof is not automatically a complete site-development project; the Building Official needs to classify the actual scope.
